Earth hour

Lights off from 20:30 to 21:30 today. TVs and computers off too.. and don't drive your car between 20:30 and 21:30. Take the battery out of your laptop, your mobile, and unplug the videorecorder and the refrigerator.

I made that last sentence up. Although if you are a perfectionist, that is what you will do. If you are not a perfectionist and just want to show other people that you are conscious there is a problem and willing to participate in a solution, you can simply turn off the lights.

Hong Kong in the dark, and there hasn't even been an earthquake!

  1. I love the idea of Earth Hour, but in reality will you switch everything off? Truly?

  3. I was thinking the same thing, security-wise. Fortunately, my office is really really small... But I won't unplug the refrigerator.

  4. Unplugging the fridge means throwing away food. And aftrewards the fridge consumens longer energy.

I will plugin some extra appliances like my iron and some lights (which I normally never use) to save the powerplants. A suddeen loss of powerconsumption may be bad for the powergenerators and repairing those may be worse.

I'm more in favor of less energyconsumption throughout the whole year and not just 1 hour.

  5. We must actually switch off the vehicles too and save the environment.

  6. I think here there is not the Earth Hour, I haven't heard of it.
About time, tonight we change our clocks forwards one hour: with this we will save a lot of money, it seems about 100 millions euros.

  7. @Indrani : too right.

@Xiwel : you are joking!? I can see where you are coming from, but you should have rented or borrowed a few solariums and electrical heaters and stuff. One little iron and some lamps are not going to compensate all the power that will not be consumed ...
